Lewis Chimes has dedicated his professional life to representing individuals who have suffered injury as a result of discrimination, negligence, or misconduct.  His practice focuses primarily on individuals with employment issues.  He also handles personal injury, civil rights, criminal, and general litigation matters.

Attorney Chimes is one of the leading employment lawyers in the state of Connecticut.  He has been recognized for over ten years by Best Lawyers in America, a peer reviewed listing of leading lawyers by specialties, in four categories:  labor and employment, employment litigation: plaintiffs, ERISA litigation, and personal injury litigation: plaintiffs.  No other attorney in Connecticut has been recognized in as many categories.  In addition, he has been listed in Connecticut, New England, and New York Metro Super Lawyers for employment law for over ten years.  His firm has also been recognized as one of the best law firms in the United States in the field of employment law by U.S. News and World Report.

An experienced trial attorney, Attorney Chimes  has tried over fifty cases to verdict, and appears regularly in the state and federal courts.  In employment litigation, he has gotten the largest individual verdicts in Connecticut for individual  race discrimination (Bakhit v. Safety Marking) ($3.4 million), ERISA (Roberton v. Citizens Utilities)($1.3 million)cases.     In 2017, his client, Yosif Bakhit was nationally recognized as a Courageous Plaintiff by the Natonal Employment Lawyers Association for their race discrimination verdict in Bakhit v. Safety Marking.  In 2009, Attorney Chimes was lead counsel in Hardy v. Greenwich,  a groundbreaking race discrimination case in which a jury determined that the Greenwich Police Department had engaged in a pattern and practice of race discrimination.

Attorney Chimes also had broad experience in alternative dispute resolution.  He has negotiated,mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases, including numerous multi-million dollar settlements.

Chimes is on the Board of Governors of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, and chairs its Employment Law Committee. He is also on the Board of the Connecticut Special Olympics, and has been their legal advisor for over twenty years. He is a longstanding member of the National and Connecticut Employment Lawyers Association.        

Chimes is a graduate of Tufts University and Columbia Law School. After graduating from law school, he started his career as a prosecutor in the trial division of the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. He has been representing individuals in the state and federal courts of Connecticut since 1990.
